Prof M.S. Ramakrishnan, M.S., F.A.C.S, Former Professor of Pediatric Surgery, Madras Medical College, Pediatric Surgeon, Institute of Child Health, Chennai, India, was the first surgeon to hold a professorial chair in South India in Pediatric Surgery. Having started his career as a General Surgeon and Professor of Operative Surgery, Madras Medical College, he trained in Pediatric Surgery at Montreal, Canada. A very popular teacher, he became the President of the Association of Surgeons of India and Association of Pediatric Surgeons of India. His passion was to treat congenital malformations, particularly cleft lip and palate in which he excelled. He also created a registry on congenital malformations in 1000 live births, which is still being quoted at the Institute of Child health, Chennai.  A very endearing teacher and his final struggle were to establish a state of the art children’s Hospital to cater for the lower income group in Chennai. This edifice – Child’s Trust Hospital is a standing monument of his dream with all sub specialties of pediatrics and teaching program.
